In case you haven't guessed, it's raining today. Don't know when it started, but I can tell you it was raining when I woke up at 10:30am. Michelle (from Columbus, OH) & I had planned on going into town on our day off from class & browse & maybe get some shopping done. Well, we waited until 1:30pm but it was still raining. But we decided to brave the rain anyway. I bought a UK cell phone, which is actually cheaper to call home on than my US one! So we'll see if I use this new phone more often. Also bought a microphone/headset which dad thinks is defective because the computer will not recognize the microphone. So that means I can't use Skype just yet. Grrr! Oh well ... We went to the Sheep Shop today which is the COOLEST store in Swansea. I love it! So I plan on doing a bunch of Christmas shopping there!!!!! Get excited!
When we got back to my place tonight, I invited Michelle to dinner since it is so much more fun to cook for two, rather than just one. I am continually shocking myself with my cooking abilities! It's crazy! I made vege soup from scratch & it was DELICIOUS! The veges were soft, just the way I like, & the broth was excellent. Michelle made grilled cheese which was yummy as well. And we found hot chocolate mix & made hot chocolate. Yes, we're losers. :-) And I made zucchini nut bread with the leftover zucchini. Ah, I'm loving it! Can't believe it took me moving to Wales to really start cooking!!!!! Oh well!
Going riding tomorrow! WOOHOOOOOOOO! Can't WAIT!

The Unsex'd Female ....
I am now, officially, an "unsex'd female." Now, do not ask me what that means 'cause I'm not quite sure yet! "The Unsex'd Female: Women Writers in the French Revolution" module started today with all 3 participants (Professor Caroline Franklin, Rahima, & me). Yes, this is the class that has the 2 students. Very small class ... so small that we are meeting in her office! This has proved beneficial as she can pull books straight from her bookshelves and we have the internet at our fingertips if necessary.
So, "Unsex'd" met today and I think it may be a bit of a challenge. The main focus of this class is on Mary Wollstonecraft and her two popular works, Vindication of the Rights of Woman and Maria, or The Wrongs of Woman. Luckily, I have read both of these works, but I did not bank on the fact that my professor just PUBLISHED a book on Wollstonecraft! And of course she continually referred to her book, saying it was a great piece to look at for reference information. And you all say I have an ego! But generally speaking, Professor Franklin seems very amicable and I think we will all get along though she has constructed the course along the lines of a Research Masters rather than a Taught module. This is because, well ... I don't know why she did. But she did and Rahima and I will have to do a lot of outside reading to stay afloat.
So our assignkment this week (because we only meet once a week for two hours) is to read a poem called "The Unsex'd Female" which is a satire. The guy who write it, Pouwele I think, despises Wollstonecraft and a list of other female authors because they are more radical in their thinking. But he also admires other female authors because of their traditional, conservative views. At least that is what CF tells us. We have to read the poem and determien who he likes and dislikes and then research two in each category, preferably the obscure ones, and report back on Tuesday. Woohoo ... can't wait. :-)
Other than that, nothing else exciting. It is cold though which I dislike immensely. Oh well, I can't control the weather!

Thank God It's Monday?
Yup, TGIM! You think I'm crazy, which is completely okay with me. But since today is Monday and tomorrow is Tuesday, then that means I get to start class tomorrow! I can't wait because I am BORED out of my mind. I can only read so much as you already know. And I hate spending money on frivolous things ...
So what did I do to celebrate my Monday? Well, I got my Welsh bank account which means Daddy dearest can wire me $$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!! OK, so that really should be pounds, but I don't have that sign on my laptop. I also hung out with some members of the Equestrian Squad - we went to The Brunswick pub for the pub quiz. We did okay 21 out of 40 questions. I knew most of the American ones, but they argued with me over what CNN stood for & I gave in. I KNEW it meant Cable NOT Central. Oh well, that's the English for you. A lot of the questions were Welsh/British history. The members are pretty nice. They certainly like the beer! I didn't partake in the said beverage ... just wasn't feeling it since it IS a Monday night and I have class tomorrow. They didn't care 'cause they were going out to a bar after we left the pub. Oh well... Let's see what else...
Oh, yes! I am going to Stonehenge on Saturday to see a bunch of rocks. I hear it's a pretty great rock group - (haha, bad joke, I know :-)). I also get to RIDE on FRIDAY! Can't wait, though it will be hunt seat. And I KNOW my body will rebel on Saturday when we are at Stonehenge. But it's going to be a good hurt and I can't wait 'cause I have missed it! So Friday will be a fun day to write about, as will Saturday. And tomorrow I start class, so I'll tell you all about my Unsex'd Female class with the whole TWO students in it. It's just smashing!
So yes, bed time since I must go to class tomorrow. Ah! I've never been so excite to go to class! Kinda creepy, huh? ;-)

Ah, Sunday ... and a New Flatmate?
Ah, it's Sunday! And I LOVE sleeping in until noon. Yup, that's what I did. Don't remember when the last time I slept that late was ... oh yeah, yesterday. :-) Anyway, today has been a very uneventful day. I slept late, made brunch (eggs with edam cheese and banana nut bread - yum!). Ran into Matt this afternoon when we were stumbling around the kitchen - we have a new flatmate! He came in this morning, early, I think. His name is Robert and he is from Vancouver, Canada. Quite an old fellow too! He has a 17 1/2 year old daughter who is studying computer technology at Brown University (Matt & I think he is in his 40s). He is here doing his MA in Law. Seems like a nice fellow though he is very difficult to understand. Apparently he is originally from Wales then moved to Vancouver and is now back here doing the MA. He hopes to stay a year, but may have to move back to Canada. Matt & I are opting he moves back because we like our house of "under 25 year olds" quite well. :-) Yes, we are being discriminatory.
All it has done today is rain. It is 7:30pm as I write this and it is already dark outside. I had even convinced myself to go running, but then the sky fell! So, I stayed inside and surfaced the internet for textbooks. I can't believe how expensive books can be! When I was at Transy, I took 4 or 5 classes and only spend $500. Here, I am taking THREE classes and I am spending almost $800!! One textbook is about $100 - ridiculous! Oh well ... so Mom has gone to Borders to see what she can get with her discount. Keep your fingers crossed we can save some money.
Oh! So, I made dinner tonight. I must say - ain't too bad! I threw chicken in a skillet and cooked it with asparagus, onion, and carrot and potato slices. Needed a little pepper, which we don't have. Guess I'll run to the Spar tomorrow for that. The veges were a little crunchy, but they were still good. I was quite proud of myself!!
Nothing else exciting on my side of the ocean. May have to pop in a movie (bought Walk the Line and American Dreamz the other day) and watch that ... I can only take so much of Beloved at once because it is very dense.
